What is Rhodium?

Rhodium is a rare silvery-white hard transition metal.  It is a member of the platinum group of metal and is found in platinum ores.  Our Patience Silver Jewellery are coated with a layer of Rhodium as a finishing touch.  Rhodium is a shiny metal with an appearance like mercury.  It mimics the brialliant finish of freshly polished Silver and protects the jewellery piece from natural tarnishing.  The Rhodium plating protects Silver and Gold by coating it to help prevent tarnish and abbrasions, there by giving it that extra shine that lasts.

How to look after you Silver Jewellery?

Although Rhodium prevents natural tarnishing and scratching that occurs from everyday wear, it is not impervious to the effects of gradual wear and abrasion in the long term.  To prolong the life of your jewellery, it should not be worn while engaging in househld cleaning, gardening and other such activities that may destroy the Rhodium plating.  Talc, a common property found in cosmetic products, is also known to have an abrasive effect on jewellery items.
